At January’s Consumer Electronics Show, Altec Lansing was showing off the Live 5000 Wireless Speaker. Now, they are ready to sneak in something else before that product hits this summer.
The company just announced plans to start selling the inAir 5000 Wireless AirPlay Speaker. Also know as the MA5000, this option allows users to stream music from iTunes or an iPad, iPhone and iPod touch right to the speaker — or speakers, since multiple inAir 5000 units can be connected throughout the home or office.
“Altec Lansing is thrilled to add the first AirPlay speaker to our long line of products that support Apple devices and their customers,” said Brendon Stead, Altec Lansing’s co-president. “Apple customers have come to expect the best in design and usability, and the inAir 5000 addresses those needs while promising the amazing audio performance for which Altec Lansing is known.”
The inAir 5000 has two 3-inch Kevlar mid-range drivers, three amps, a pair of 1-inch neodymium tweeters, and a 4-inch subwoofer. All of that is packed inside a curvy, compact chassis, which promises an easy setup via Altec Lansing’s free inAir Guide App.
Expect the inAir 5000 Wireless AirPlay Speaker to start shipping any day now. It will be available direct from Altec Lansing, as well as select retailers, with an MSRP of $499.95.
