These days, it’s important to have a good pair of headphones. However, not all headphones are created equal. HiFiMAN is making its products stand out, with a few new affordable headphone options, as well as a hybrid headphone amp.
That amplifier is an interesting piece for those of you who already have a nice pair of headphones. Known as the EF100, this is a “hybrid” amp, which means it’s a tube amplifier and one with solid-state technology. Because of all of that technology, it can drive headphones as well as speakers.
On the inside, the EF100 has separate areas. One houses the vacuum tube input stage, with a Class AB headphone amp and a Class T speaker power amp filling out the rest of the component. When the EF100 is in headphone mode, it can produce 2 watts of output under a 32-ohm load. When it’s in amplifier mode, the amplifier output line is independent from the digital amplifier line.
HiFiMAN is selling the EF100 now, with an MSRP of $499.
If you need a pair of headphones to complement your amp purchase, HiFiMAN has a few new in-ear options. The RE300 Series has a total of three models. Each one has a 8.5mm driver, 32 ohms impedance and a sensitivity rating of 108dB. The RE300i is made for use with the iPhone, while the RE300a is for you Android lovers out there. Both have in-line controls that are compatible with your portable device of choice. The RE300h is designed for every and any device. Instead of the in-line controls, it has an oxygen-free cable for better sonic performance. All three models are priced at $49 each.
For something with a little more oomph, HiFiMAN just introduced the RE400i. This $99 option is specifically designed for use with iOS devices. Otherwise, it has an 8.5mm coated Titanium driver, Neodynamic magnets, oxygen-free copper cables, and an ergonomic design.
All of the above products are selling now, with the exception of the RE400i. That is coming next month.
