We love smart thermostats as much as you do. However, they don’t know how to spread that warmth or cooling power wisely. Typically, unused rooms go cold or boil, which results in wasted energy—and money.
The Keen Home Smart Vent offers a pretty keen way to solve this problem. The product was featured on the ABC TV show Shark Tank in February. The solution can help you save energy with a patent pending louver system, which can open and close in response to the user’s home, lifestyle, and smartphone commands. However, you don’t have to just guess at the times and places that don’t deserve the goods; the system has temperature and pressure sensors that can monitor and recirculate the air throughout the home.
Powered by four AA batteries (which are included!), the Smart Vent can be easily installed and running in about 5 minutes. Other features include interchangeable vent faceplates and integration options for popular home platforms and protocols via 802.15.4 radio.
“Our Smart Vent is designed to increase comfort, empowering users to customize the airflow to different rooms, while helping to lower home energy bills,” said co-founder Ryan Fant. “Heating and cooling, which represents half of the energy costs of the average American household, can be more efficiently managed with the Keen Home Smart Vent system. In addition to the Smart Vent, we are developing a pipeline of products that will wake up sleepy systems in the home.”
The Keen Home Smart Vent will start selling sometime this summer. It’s expected to be priced around $85 per vent.
