Stephen Hopkins • 11:35 AM,

Earlier this week we showed you a deal on a 73” Mitsubishi 1080p DLP display that’s currently one of the least expensive ways to break into large-screen 3D TV. While that deal has since expired, if 73” is just a touch too big but you’re still interested in frugal 3D TV, Dell Home also has the 60” and 65” versions of the same C9 series “3D Ready” DLP TVs for…

Lisa Montgomery • 09:15 AM,

There are a slew of apps that can give your iPhone or iPod touch the smarts to operate entertainment components. With most of these apps you’ll need to plug your components into a box that can convert the WiFi signals of the mobile device into infrared signals that the A/V equipment can understand. Some programming of your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad might be required, as well. i-Got-it Corp. (www.i-got-it.com)…

Review: Aperion Audio Bravus 10D Subwoofer
Audioholics.com • 02:30 PM,
0 Comments
The Aperion Audio Bravus 10D is an attractive, potent little subwoofer at a reasonable price. It certainly doesn’t have the output and extension of its larger peers, but that’s a tradeoff one must live with if they want a small box to better blend into their room décor. Given the diminutive size of the 10D, it would be easy to place two of these in most family rooms without drawing…

We were pretty awed by JVC’s 4K projector the company showed off at CEDIA a few years ago, and JVC recently demo’d 3D projection using two such projectors. This week the manufacturer announced its latest high-performance 4K2K D-ILA projector, the DLA-SH7NLG, which like previous models can deliver ultra-high-resolution of about 10 megapixels (4096 x 2400, well beyond full HD 1080p of 1920 x 1080). The company says the projector’s wire-grid…

Stephen Hopkins • 02:50 PM,
2 Comments
Apparently 3D stands for 3 dips, because that’s what it looks like it’s going to take to get “Avatar” on 3D Blu-ray. According to the Los Angeles Times, “Avatar” will receive an initial bare-bones, movie-only release on DVD and Blu-ray on April 22. The Los Angeles Times also cites “Fox sources” who say previous reports of a 3D version being released in 2010 are incorrect. James Cameron, who postponed the…

Arlen Schweiger • 11:30 AM,

What video content looks best in Blu-ray format? It’s tough to go wrong with stunning nature video. Usually broadcast TV shows are very clean. I’d still say it’s very difficult to outdo animation - look no further than Pixar, especially. Unfortunately there aren’t any new Pixar releases this week, but there are some animated efforts that ought to sparkle on your combination of big screen and Blu-ray to highlight this…
