We’ve seen a lot of Kickstarter campaigns. However, one of the most popular we’ve seen — especially for the security category — is for the Blink.
Blink is an upcoming DIY wireless security camera. The hook on the product isn’t just that it’s affordable, but it’s insanely easy to install. Much like the GeckoEye that we reported on last week, Blink can be placed almost anywhere in the home. Once you have a spot for Blink, you can tap into real-time video using the free Blink app.
Designed for renters and homeowners, the battery-powered Blink promises up to a year of service on a single battery. No charging is needed. Just plug the Sync Module into a wall outlet and place the Blink wherever you want it. Then, launch the Blink app and run the setup wizard. Besides checking out live video, Blink can also deliver motion and temperature alerts to your iOS and Android devices.
Other features include an auto arm/disarm option, onboard storage, night vision, and a built-in microphone. Immedia has also made Blink’s API available for future integration with other smart home devices.
“Blink delivers the first home monitoring experience that’s both truly affordable and customizable,” said Don Shulsinger, Immedia’s VP of marketing and sales. “You can place it anywhere, and build it out in the manner that suits your needs, without the hassle of installation or monthly fees.”
Currently, Blink has half-a-million pre-orders (and counting). However, there’s still time to secure your Blink before the Kickstarter campaign ends on September 4, 2014. At last peek, Blink had surpassed its stretch goal of $600,000, meaning that a Blink alarm device should also be made available to backers for just $25 (which is 50 percent off the future retail price). According to the Kickstarter page, all of the early-bird offers have been redeemed, but you can still score a Blink with a minimum pledge of $69.
