Earlier this year, Classé Audio launched the Sigma series with three different products. Now the company is adding to that lineup with the newly announced Sigma Mono amplifier.
The other components currently in the Sigma series include the Sigma Amp2 2-channel amplifier, the Sigma Amp5 five-channel amplifier, and the Sigma SSP 7.1-channel preamp/processor.
According to the company’s website, when “compared with the Sigma Amp2 and Amp5, the Sigma Mono utilizes even higher performance analog input circuitry, incorporates changes to the DSP to optimize performance for its higher output power, and includes upgrades to passive components in the power supply and output filters.”
This new monaural amplifier boasts 350 watts into 8 ohms and 700 watts into 4 ohms. Besides the upgrades and the power, the big hook on this model is a special pass-thru feature, which allows the input signal to be forwarded to a second amplifier for bi-amplifying or to drive a subwoofer amplifier. That means that amplifiers can be located closer to each speaker. It also means that you only need a single long interconnect to hook the preamp to the first amp, followed by a short interconnect to the second Sigma Mono—or even a third and fourth.
Other features include a Classé-designed Switch Mode Power Supply (SMPS) and Power
Factor Correction (PFC) circuit, as well as the aforementioned analog input stage, modifications to the operation of the output stage, and new output filters.
“In the short time they’ve been available, our proprietary Sigma series amplifier designs have been showered with praise from numerous audio critics and consumers worldwide, “said Dave Nauber, president of Classé. “The Sigma Mono builds on this innovative platform, pushing the performance to heights that surprised even us—and we’re pretty hard to surprise!”
Classé will start selling the Sigma Mono sometime in October, with an MSRP of $4,000.
