The steps to mount a flat panel TV on your wall normally involve quite a bit of work, even for the seasoned do-it-yourselfer. OmniMount hopes to change that, with its new self-named omnimount. The company says installation takes only three steps: attach the panel spacers to the TV’s back, mount the wall brackets and hang the flat panel. Can it really be that easy? “At OmniMount, we pride ourselves on pushing the envelope to constantly offer our customers the most innovative mount solutions available. The…

They’re not likening it to swine flu just yet, but NBC recently gave some Nightly News airtime to a report about the dangers of TVs when it comes to children’s safety. For anyone whose toddler likes to run up and push things—like TVs—or grab books and remotes from on top of the TVs, you know this can be a major hazard. Hopefully you haven’t encountered it. But NBC cited a study that found that in 2007 alone almost 17,000 children had ER visits because furniture…

Review: Peerless In-Wall Flat Panel TV Mount
Audioholics.com

When you purchase a flat panel, the biggest travesty (in my humble opinion) is to set it on a piece of furniture as if it is business as usual. With today’s available inventory of flat panel TV wall mounts, it’s insane to not want to place these beautiful masterpieces of technology up on the wall where they belong. And if you have an even newer flat panel display that is less than two inches in thickness, why not try to get that TV right up…

Mount Solves Room’s Poor Viewing Angles

Bonus rooms over garages are notorious for having slanted walls, angled ceilings and other structural abnormalities. With flat surfaces in short supply, it can be difficult to find a good spot for a plasma or LCD TV. Audio Input of Joplin, MO, devised a clever solution to this common problem while designing an entertainment system for a bonus room-turned-guest suite. The best location for a TV in a bedroom is typically the wall directly across from the bed. Unfortunately, in this project that particular wall…

Special Design Cools TV Over Fireplace
Lisa Montgomery

The jury is still out as to whether it’s a good idea to put a flat-panel TV over the fireplace. Some home theater designers think the spot is too hot for the TV’s well-being; others cite the position as being too high for comfortable viewing; and there are those that find the area too difficult to access when they’re ready to connect wires. However, there are ways to make the over-the-mantle location more amenable to technology, says Ian Bryant, senior programmer at Tri-Phase Technologies in…

Flat-panel TVs have been plummeting in price lately, so you can save some of that extra dough on a spiffy or decorative way to mount that new plasma to your wall. Conveniently, Media Decor has introduced its entry-level concealment for flat-panels, the Ecco Series. Starting at $1,495, it’s below the company’s Illusion Series and Elite Series, and models come in two battery-operated sizes—the Ecco 42 and Ecco 50. As you may have guessed from the names, they’re meant to accommodate the most common flat-panel sizes.…

So you want your flat-panel TV covered for only your eyes to see when it’s turned on. Artwork is a great way to go in this manner, with a few really good solutions out there. One of them, from Media Decor, lets you better visualize how all of the pieces will come together and look in your media room with an online builder section called Frame-It. This way you can see real examples of details you may not have counted on, like the frame scaling…

Design Tip: ArtScreen Adds Beauty, Rids Glare

Covering flat-panel TV with artwork is an effective way of sprucing up a set when it’s not being used. Many manufacturers offer motorized canvas designed to quietly roll over the display. Installed inside a slim housing that’s mounted at the top of a TV, the canvas can showcase art that complements the room design. When you’re ready to watch a movie or TV program, a press of a button engages the motor which lifts the canvas back into the housing. Motorized artwork, like the ArtScreen…

Hmmm ... your flat-panel TV isn’t mounted to a wall, it isn’t standing on a piece of furniture, and it kinda looks like it’s magically levitating in air. Don’t worry. It’s not about to fall on your toes. It’s actually mounted, just not on the wall—it’s on Salamander Designs’ new Synchro Furniture Mate. The Mate, which will be shown off at next week’s CES 2009, supports flat-panel TVs up to 60 diagonal inches or 110 pounds. It has a forklift like base, that simply slides…
