Love your home theater? But does it compare to the real thing? For a home theater to beat a genuine movie theater, it needs more than high definition, widescreen action. I’m talking about accessories. So as the saying goes, if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. By spending some time and money, you can bring that genuine movie theater flavor (more than just popcorn) into your home. Signs & Posters Every movie theater has impressive signage. Proclaim your theater to the world with a “cinema”…

Life may be a cabaret, old chum—but that doesn’t mean you don’t need a comfy place to enjoy it from. The latest in the Fortress seating line is the Moulin Rouge. It doesn’t come with Nicole Kidman or even Zsa Zsa, but it’s still sure to dazzle. This theater sectional is available in a variety of options: chaise lounge, reclining theater chairs with pocket arms to create individual seats, and fixed sofa seating with an ottoman. Such a selection makes it a nice option for…

It might look like it’s some sort of seating arrangement out of “A Clockwork Orange” or “Brazil” but the Surround Sound Chair is more for enjoyment. If you’re cramped for space or want a headphones-like experience for watching movies and concert DVDs, this product from D+S Sound Labs may be up your alley. The Surround Sound Chair comes with five speakers—two fronts, two surrounds and a subwoofer—for an in-your-face immersive surround experience. The fronts use 5.25-inch coaxial drivers in a 6-inch PVC enclosure, and are…

Watching a movie on your big-screen plasma, LCD or projection screen is great because of the video, but if you don’t have a comfortable seat you might not make it through three hours of a Lord of the Rings movie in one sitting. Fortunately companies like Bass Industries offer plenty of great seating options. We’re not sure where they got the name, but Bass’ new Zoob 2 sofa-like piece looks like something you could really sink softly into as you enjoy the flick. The Zoob…

Batman Chair Has Built-In Muscles

OK—it doesn’t have an LCD, control panel, or even massage features. However, there is something incredibly geeky about the Half Moon Chair. Is it the Batman ears or the built-in muscles? We’re not sure. The weirdest thing about this Louis Saul creation is that it actually has no affiliation to the Dark Knight, despite its obvious resemblance. Born Rich says that the surface has orange sponge rubber, which we’re guessing will get really funky come those sweaty summer months. Storage shelves are also built into…

Rotating Floor Transforms Theater
Steven Castle

Call it the ultimate multipurpose room. Sure, all it has are the usual rows of dedicated theater seating and a small bar in the back. But that front row of seats rotates 180 degrees to face the second row, so this home theater can be used for all kinds of parties and entertaining. “The room was quite large—28 by 20 feet—but the rest of the home was not,” says theater designer Donny Hackett of Casa Cinema in Hendersonville, TN. “This was one of those times…

Ever wonder where Batman buys his theater equipment? You can stop scouring the web; Elite Home Theater Seating wants to make your superhero shopping experience a lot easier. The company just announced a new home theater line to accommodate those of you looking to add a Batcave into your home. Sure, a lot of companies make black theater seats, but this is the kind that superheroes sit in—apparently. “Most of the seating commonly offered is very boring, overstuffed and traditional,” says company founder and CEO…

Steve Cale isn’t screwing around with his home theater. After 10 months of gutting his basement and countless dollars, he doesn’t just let anyone into his home theater. You need the password—or at least a carbon copy of his fingerprint for the door lock. “It just sounded and looked cool and was a very quick and easy way to get into the theater, while securing it so that no one could get in that I didn’t want in,” Cale says of the Shepherd DL 210…

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, you need to shake off the sloth and figure a way to express your feelings. Bell’O is merging lazy with love in the HTS-100, a stylish home theater love seat. It may seem like a nice sentiment, but the way the unit is crafted actually makes it perfect for watching home theater. The headrest is even engineered to place your head into an optimal viewing position. Once you’re finished snuggling, you can add on extra pieces, for a full-fledged…

How long has it been since you rearranged the furniture in your family room? If you’ve recently put in a home theater, you might have already done your share of scraping couches, chairs and cabinets across the floor. Some of that stuff simply wasn’t meant to move. And guess what? You’ll probably want to shift everything around again at some point, whether you’re making room for your daughter’s slumber party or pushing everything together for Super Bowl Sunday. Yes, the home theater setup you have…

Fortress Adds Height to Seating Line

When you are freakishly short like I am, a beanbag almost qualifies as home theater seating. My 6’2” husband, on the other hand, needs a bit more support for his upper half. Fortress is accommodating all shapes and sizes with its new Motorized Adjustable Seat Height. Just push a button and the seat back takes a wild little ride up, up and away—or at least up to six inches. That should be plenty to prop up your pretty little head. The Motorized Adjustable Seat Height…
