HDTV on the PC is no small wonder—but it can be pretty easy, thanks to ATI’s TV Wonder line. About a year ago, AMD took over ATI; thankfully they are keeping the TV Wonder line alive and well. Today, they were touting new TV Wonder products, which—you guessed it—have AMD LIVE! support inside. That’s fine and dandy, but the ATI TV Wonder 650 Combo USB (pictured), TV Wonder 600 PCI and TV Wonder 600 PCI Express all work with your PC to record high-def TV… View this story

The family room has a state-of-the-art video projector concealed in a metal oven hood. The projector and custom-made 138-inch curved screen are not only capable of showing CinemaScope movies—in a superwide 2.35:1 aspect ratio versus the 1.78:1 of widescreen HDTV—they can also show Ben-Hur in its original, very seriously wide 2.76:1 format. In the billiards room adjacent to the kitchen are four 32-inch LCD HDTVs behind a mirror, so they’re only visible when turned on. And that’s just the first floor. The guy behind this… View this story

The end of analog TV broadcasts per federal government mandate is still two years away, but RCA is already getting ready for the transition. The company says it is readying the DTA800, a low-cost and energy-efficient converter that will ensure reception of favorite broadcast TV programs even when analog TV signals are turned off. At midnight at the end of Feb. 17, 2009, analog TV broadcasts are scheduled to cease in the United States in favor of digital over-the-air broadcasting. Millions of consumers rely on… View this story

Electronic House editor Cindy Davis discusses the differences between 720p and 1080p with SIM2 marketing manager Greg Nicoloso. EH: On a recent press trip to the SIM2 factory in Italy, you were mentioning some of the advantages of 720p over 1080p. SIM2 has both 720p and 1080p front projectors, so I was surprised to hear this. This goes against everything we are hearing about 1080p, please explain your reasoning behind this. Greg Nicoloso: In such a broad market, we think it’s unrealistic to rely on… View this story
