Chalk up another way to get loads of music out of your Apple portable player. The Associated Press (via the S.F. Chronicle) is reporting that Sirius XM satellite radio will be the latest player to extend its reach to the iPhone and iPod touch devices, as we know music service apps pop up for Apple all the time. That’s sweet news for the 19 million subscribers of the struggling satellite service, a few of whom we’re guessing own an iPhone or touch and will now… View this story

It appears that Sirius XM Radio won’t have to file for bankruptcy thanks to a $530 million investment by Liberty Media Corp., according to the Wall Street Journal. The satellite radio giant had hinted at possibly filing for Chapter 11 as soon as today. Speculation was that Charles Ergen, owner of Dish Network and EchoStar who recently bought up much of Sirius’ debt, might move to acquire the company. Instead, it’s Liberty, a Colorado-based competitor of Ergen’s companies, that comes to Sirius XM’s rescue. The… View this story

The speculation continues to grow about Sirius XM and a potential bankruptcy filing. The satellite radio company has hired advisers to prepare for a possible Chapter 11 filing, the New York Times reports. Without getting too financial, Sirius XM is $3 billion in debt, of which $175 million is due at the end of February. So what does a looming bankruptcy mean for subscribers? It doesn’t appear as though customers will immediately lose service. But the big names - Howard Stern, Martha Stewart - will… View this story

About a week ago, we heard that Sirius XM was planning to jack up its subscription fees. Naturally, that news didn’t go over so well with a lot of current subscribers. It wasn’t a bad dream. It’s happening—and you’ll see a reflection in your bill starting March 11. After that date, those of you with multiple subscriptions will have to pay an extra two bucks a month, making the cost $8.99 per additional account. Also, online listening will no longer be free. Supposedly, they are… View this story

Love enjoying that Sirius XM subscription at work? It will soon cost you. Orbitcast fired off a few rumors about the potential Sirius XM increase. Now Sirius Buzz has confirmed our fears. The first increase will come for Sirius XM subscribers with multiple subscriptions. In other words, if you want more, you are going to have to pay more. The price will increase $2 over it’s current $6.99 per additional account. The new pricing is expected to kick in come March 11. We are most… View this story

Sirius XM has thrown a twist into taking satellite radio on the go with Pioneer’s XMp3 player. Well, it’s actually more like XM. Because even though the company is now one giant entity, the announcement says that the new portable player only works with XM programming, with the option to get the Best of Sirius package. In other words, Sirius subscribers probably won’t want to spend the $280. However, they might. After all, it doesn’t just allow for portable listening, but it also records—up to… View this story

Well, we can all stop holding our breath now. The XM and Sirius satellite radio merger has finally been completed today, according to the AP. If you were hoping for a cool new name like SiriuxM or XMirius or Super Satellite SM Radio, you’ll just have to settle for Sirius XM Radio Inc., which was the winner. Stock will continue to be found and traded under SIRI on Nasdaq. We’re eager to keep an eye on the shakeout, which we understand to include a la… View this story

It seems that the FCC may finally wrap up the deal that will merge XM and Sirius Satellite Radio. The whole thing rests on a lone vote from Commissioner Deborah Taylor Tate. However, The Wall Street Journal says that, in exchange for her vote, both companies will pay $20 million in fines stemming from tower locations and power limits. Both companies have already agreed to other stipulations, including price caps, a la carte channel options, and designating 8 percent of its full-time channels for public… View this story

ReQuest users just got a little luckier. Aside from having their super-cool iQ whole-house music system (assuming you have that), the company just announced two tweaks for your setup. First is the all-new, on-screen HDTV GUI (graphical user interface). Dubbed iQ TV, this interface allows users to check out their music on any high-def TV, in 720p. While you may not care about how it looks, you probably will about how it operates—via any infrared remote. Those remotes can either “learn” the new functions, or… View this story

It looks like the FCC has had a change of heart regarding the merger of XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. and Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. The AP says that some of the staff, including FCC chairman Kevin Martin, has given the thumbs-up to the merger. That means the deal could be done in as little as three weeks. Of course, there are stipulations. For starters, the combined company would need to cap its prices on both services and satellite receivers. They would also like the… View this story

It’s time to squeeze more out of the Squeezebox. Sirius just announced that it will make more than 80 of its satellite radio channels available to the two Logitech Squeezebox networked players, as well as the company’s Transporter product. It’s a pretty cool added feature, especially if you already have an existing subscription (which is $12.95 a month; $6.99 for additional subs). Sirius says that its commercial-free music channels will be available, as well as specialty channels such as Howard Stern, Martha Stewart, MAXIM Radio,… View this story

In honor of today’s long-time-coming merger approval of satellite giants Sirius and XM, today’s deal features one of the cheapest receivers (in the good sense) on the market - the Delphi XM SKYFi2 w/ remote. Say what you will about the sound quality of this non-terrestrial medium - either flavor - the convenience factor can’t be beat, to say nothing of the commercial-free content. The SKYFi2 has several nice features, including 30 channel presets, personalized stock and sports tickers, a preview mode to see what… View this story
