Wayne-Dalton Teleport
Rachel Cericola
11/11 01:34 PM, 2 Comments
This Teleport won’t beam you up (no matter how hard you try), but it can flip to your favorite channel, turn on lights, and do a slew of other electronic tasks. Wayne-Dalton’s Teleport remote combines Z-Wave and infrared technology. That combo can easily handle all of your A/V equipment, as well as any Z-Wave-enabled home control devices you’ve got kicking around. “Teleport augments our home controls line by providing access to some of the most important components in a home—the home theatre A/V equipment,” said… View this story

Vincent Bova DIY Theater
Rachel Cericola
11/10 07:45 AM, 0 Comments
Three years ago, Vincent Bova didn’t have a home theater. Life was busy, with his job on Wall Street, his wife Jennifer, 2-year-old Nikolette, and a new home. He did have the bug, though. “I was fascinated with home theater, but also very intimidated by it,” Vincent says. “My knowledge over the years was very technical, but it was more computer-based.” To spice up his new digs, he called a local shop, Image and Sound FX, for an estimate on a whole-house audio system. As… View this story

It’s about time somebody revamped the remote control. Rectangular clickers are fine, don’t get me wrong. But no matter how many buttons, colors or touchscreens you put on them, they’re all still the same basic shape. Savant has recently broken the mold with its Rosie Contemporary remote. Shaped a like a candy dish, this beauty is small enough to sit in the palm of your hand. Using your thumb as you would to operate an iPod, you navigate the remote’s scroll wheel to move through… View this story

Bryson BR2

Those with a pile of Bryston gear may be sitting on a pile of money, but that doesn’t crank up the CD player, baby. The Canadian company just announced the BR2 multifunction remote to take control of some of those Bryston goodies. If you’ve got the aforementioned Bryston gear, that money pile may be slightly smaller than it used to be, but the BR2 runs for a mere $500. That’s actually very cheap in Bryston-land. The company says it’s designed to deal with the company’s… View this story

Philips is well known for their Pronto line of remote control products, but they also make a rather large lineup of handheld universal remote controls. The new Prestigo line represents Philips foray into the consumer remote realm where PC-based programming is discarded in favor of preset codes and on-screen prompts. Where the new SRU8015 remote deviates is in its ability to guide the user through programming with a full color LCD screen - and without the aid of a real instruction manual. This remote will… View this story

Logitech Harmony 510

Logitech keeps cranking out those Harmony remotes. This time, they’ve quietly started selling the Harmony 510, which is parked nicely beneath the $100 mark. CNET says the unit is an awful lot like the Harmony 550, except it’s got a different color scheme and has a few less keys—two to be exact. The 550 costs an extra $30, which means those two keys are valued at $15 each. Logitech says the unit can control up to five devices. Of course, like every other Harmony, you… View this story

When a new Logitech Harmony Remote arrives on the scene I like to review it to update readers on the latest models in the line-up. With the introduction of the Harmony One universal remote I felt that Logitech had finally completely usurped the original Harmony design and replaced it with a “from the ground up” approach that reflected Logitech’s penchant for svelte devices. In case you were still navigating through that last bit of pontifical text, I was giving them a high compliment. Logitech’s Harmony… View this story

Best Remote Controls for Less Than $500

You can have all the latest gear, the most up-to-date display and the biggest, baddest speakers known to man but there’s still one thing that can ruin an enjoyable romp through an action-filled blockbuster, and it’s likely the smallest piece of equipment in your theater. I’m talking about the remote – an extension of everyone’s hand, the one thing that lets you have total control over your world. A universal remote done right can make even the most complicated A/V setup easy enough for grandma… View this story

Gyration Air Music Remote
Rachel Cericola

For some reason, I think I’ve seen the new Gyration Air Music Remote. It’s hard to say; so many remotes, so few things to control. Anyway, the company says that the remote is now available for purchase. Gyration is all about making computer keyboards and mice, as well as presentation pointers. Now they’ve put that magic into the Gyration Air Music Remote. The company says this handheld “controls all digital home entertainment with the ability to replace existing TV, cable, A/V and Media Center remotes,… View this story

For years, keypads have boasted rows of tactile buttons. They work nicely for most people, and while they definitely look better on the wall than a bank of toggle switches, they add little to the aesthetic of a home. With its new TouchLinx TLA250 touchpad, Netstreams offers a control device that’s as beautiful to look at as it is easy to use. “A lot of companies tend to just focus on technology,” says Kevin Reinis, Netsteams president and CEO. “We decided it was time that… View this story

Controls and cables—they often go underappreciated within the electronics spectrum. Cables and wires are the nitty gritty that too often are an afterthought in your entertainment purchase and setup. Then you start scratching your head as to just how important these runs are as the central nervous system of your A/V. The old joke with controls was the basket of six remotes to control six different products. Now we have spiffy, versatile and extremely intelligent remotes. On top of that, we have automation systems that… View this story

NuVo Wireless Control Pad
Rachel Cericola
09/04 08:56 AM, 0 Comments
There’s something about NuVo’s new controller that makes us think about the iPod. Maybe it’s the metadata, maybe it’s the clickwheel. However, the Wireless Control Pad packs more than your on-the-go music and videos. It offers those with the Grand Concerto and Essentia E6G multi-room audio systems a new control, as well as a way to add in music from any iPod, PC, music server, satellite radio, and more. The handheld features a 1.6-inch OLED in a remote about the size of a smartphone. The… View this story
