We’ve seen some pretty wild iPod docks over the last couple of years. Now that the iPhone and iPod touch (and recently the new nano) have introduced the ability to watch the screen sideways and enlarged, well, let the next wave of docks begin. The i-Station Rotate from British manufacturer Logic3 is the first one we’ve seen that includes a built-in rotating dock mechanism within its speaker dock setup. Pop your iPhone/iPod touch/new nano into the cradle, and turn it sideways for all of that…

Well, someone certainly loves the iPod—Yamaha. They just announced four new products that all incorporate a dock to add that precious portable into the audio mix. The MCS-1330 features two channels worth of amplification at 60 watts each, a CD player and two speakers. For those that aren’t iPod-dependent, this unit also has a USB port and analog inputs for adding other devices. The CRX-430 has a little less power, with two channnels at 25 watts each. Finally, the MCR-330 and MCR-230 drop down even…

Finally an iPod dock that you can use—besides as an iPod dock, anyway. The Griffin Simplifi is quite the multitasker, combining an iPod dock with a media card reader and a USB hub. The unit is compatible with Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, SD, xD and CF cards. The hub isn’t anything massive, but should clear up some clutter with its two ports. Griffin also says the unit can charge and sync many iPod models, as well as the iPhone. Wired says the unit even…

DWV iPod Dock Looks Like Fishing Reel

Everyone and their mother seems to have an iPod dock—and even your mom’s looks the same. Now David Wiener Ventures has thrown a curve (literally) into the dock market. The Art.Suono is described as a “luxury iPod product,” which could mean that it’s an iPod dock for $1,499. However, it’s not the price or suave-sounding name that makes this unit unique. The unit features DWC-APHEX circuitry, as well as proprietary wireless technology, which allows users to stream music to any audio system. That music can…

When you can’t beat ‘em, sell ‘em to another audience, right? Memorex just announced plans to market some of its products to women. This big push includes a more retro-looking logo, new packaging and a new website. Of course, it’s pretty much the same old products that everyone else is making. The company thinks making things pretty will snag part of the 25-to-44-year-old female audience. I’m not saying it won’t get some. However, the company is banking on its new logo, with “a circle icon…

Now that you’ve got your home theater display and speakers, what else do you need? Don’t forget about the power management that can optimize your A/V setup. There are also other “extra” goodies that we thought deserved recognition this year. On the power side, protection, management and conditioning to get you clean, uninterruptible and surge-protected AC power to all of your precious electronics equipment can’t be understated in its importance. Several companies excel in this category, and we gave nods to APC for its Back-UPS…

How to make your iPod speaker stand out above the rest? Offer the grille in tasty colors such as caramel, chocolat, olive and chili pepper. Boston Acoustics’ Horizon i-DS2 has grilles available in colors outside of the major food groups, too. Aside from that, it’s not much different from any of the other iPod dock/speaker sets. The unit promises to fill the room with all of your music, via a dockable iPod or auxiliary input. It also comes with the obligatory remote. PC World even…

The iPod add-on has been done to death, but iHome keeps cranking out new ways to dock that little portable. This time, they are putting a new twist—literally—into the category, with the iH41. Designed specifically for use with the iPod touch, the unit can be flipped so you can view widescreen videos while the unit is docked and charging. Other features include EXBTM expanded bass and Reson8 technology, as well as an LED that can change to match your mood and iPod. “At iHome, we’re…

Sure we love to wake up with our favorite, commercial-free music. If we could also wake up with a few extra bucks left in our pants pockets, even better. Two new iPod alarm clocks were just announced. They are live, they are Memorex, and they are super cheap. The Mi4019 is a colorful tabletop to charge and play any iPod. The best feature? It’s only 40 bucks. Another nifty highlight is the little flip door to hide the buttons and connectors, when not in use.…

Hey Rocky, watch me pull an iPod dock out of my hat… Again? That wasn’t exactly part of Bullwinkle’s routine, but these days, it seems to be a lot easier than scoring a rabbit. The latest to throw their hat into the iPod accessory ring is Samson, with its StudioDock 3i USB Studio Monitors. It’s got the iPod dock, which charges and plays your portable. However, one thing that does make this product to stand out is a USB interface, which allows you to sync…

Zune users need not be jealous of the endless amount of tabletop systems available to the iPod crowd. iHome, makers of numerous said radios, has just announced the ZN9 for Zuners everywhere. The unit is the first clock radio designed to dock and play Microsoft’s portable Zune player. It includes a dual alarm, a radio, a backlit LCD, and something called a “7-5-2 feature,” which allows for separate weekday and weekend alarm times. OK—maybe you have no use for a weekend alarm. However, the unit…

He likes jazz, she likes metal. Now the two musical tastes can exist—at least in the same iPod dock. JVC says that its previously announced NX-PN7 iPod dock is now available. What makes this different from your run-of-the-mill docking station is that it plays and charges two players side-by-side. The unit will flip-flop between portables and play the music through the dock’s speaker system to make one killer house party. There’s also a clock, timer and an AM/FM tuner, for your weather or talk fix.…
