Inside BB King's $1.4 Million Tour Bus
Jason Knott
11/04 09:20 AM, 0 Comments
For legendary blues guitarist BB King, the thrill isn’t gone when it comes to touring. The 83-year-old “King of the Blues” is still on the road with his famous Gibson guitar “Lucille” performing 100 concerts per year. And King gets from gig to gig on more than just a simple set of wheels. King rides in a $1.4 million, 45–foot luxury motorcoach that has more than $200,000 worth of electronics inside, making it a center of inspiration for laying down tracks, reviewing audio and video,… View this story

I’m not sure if NewEgg is just ramping up as Black Friday approaches, but they’re having a heck of a day when it comes to Home Theater deals.  First, as the morning/afternoon segment of their daily Shell Shocker available until 4 p.m. EST today, November 2, you can grab a new (not refurbished) Harmony 659 activity based remote for $39.99 with free shipping. This is a slightly older Harmony model and lacks the color touch screen and charging dock of the One and 900. That… View this story

It seems, these days, every device in your home can connect to a network in one form or fashion. Media players, televisions, refrigerators, coffee makers, toilet paper dispensers ... the list goes on and on.  Well, if you have a well-connected home, you should also have well-connected centralized storage to filter your media and other files out and about. NewEgg currently has the HP MediaSmart EX470 Windows Home Server (recertified), with 500GB of storage, 3 empty SATA bays, 4 USB ports, and 1 eSATA port… View this story

10/13 02:20 PM, 1 Comment
Start-up GlideTV is introducing Navigator, a minimalist handheld remote control for operating home theater PCs (HTPCs) such as Windows Media Center, Boxee and Apple Front Row. The device, which fits in the palm of the hand, employs the standard Bluetooth Human Interface Device (HID) and works with virtually any system that supports standard mouse and keyboard HID commands. Just plug the USB wireless receiver into a compatible device. The Navigator contains a clickable touchpad mouse and buttons for volume, playback, up/down/left/right, esc, enter, back and… View this story

If you have Verizon FiOS and Windows 7, you can stream HBO, Starz and Showtime throughout the home network and even over the Internet (after installing the 1.19 firmware update for ATI Digital Cable Tuners). That comes courtesy of Microsoft’s new support of Copy Freely (CF) a designation assigned by content providers. Before WMC’s support of Copy Freely, you could only stream CableCard content to Media Center Extenders, not to other PCs. With Media Center, everything looked like it was copy protected, so you couldn’t… View this story

Our Windows Media Center maven Derek R. Flickinger just upgraded his ATI Digital Cable Tuners to the new 1.19 firmware. “It looks like all of the FiOS channels are showing as unprotected (Copy Freely),” he says. “This could be awesome!” Microsoft announced during CEDIA Expo 2009 that Windows 7 Media Centers would support Copy Freely (CF), one of the designations applied to TV programs by their providers. (The other tags are Copy Once and Copy Never.) In the past, Media Center did not recognize the… View this story

Windows Media Center: you either love it or you hate it. That’s what they all say, but I’ve been an in-betweener for many years. I had one of the earlier models. It was loud, ran hot, and the DVD player never worked properly. Now comes S1Digital’s P500—part of the company’s ProLine Series—and I remember what I liked so much about the Media Center platform in the first place. Let’s start with cosmetics. Right now, the P500 is plopped on my media center console next to… View this story

We’ve known for a while that Apple TV is a mere “hobby” for the company, so maybe today’s store shuffling just emphasizes that ... or maybe Apple has something up its sleeve. The Apple store today has apparently slimmed its Apple TV offerings in half, from the 40GB and 160GB models down to just the 160GB. So the bad news, for now it seems, is that you can’t grab a cheaper entry model for your viewing and listening pleasures. The good news, though, is that… View this story

Remember SE2 Labs, the company that brought us the ultimate home theater in a box with AMX automation, Bryston audio, Vidikron video processing, iPod dock, Xbox 360, Blu-ray and more? At CEDIA 2009, the company is packing one more thing into that $30,000+ ITC (Integrated Theater Console) One box: multiroom audio. The new ITC 1.2 and ITC 1.5 distribute audio to two and five zones, respectively. They ship with the required keypads. SE2 created the audio system with the help of Bryston, Canadian manufacturer of… View this story

We think Steve Jobs might even want to give MMCSI a call. The 3-year-old company—Multi Media Conversion Services, Inc. (MMCSI)—specializes in converting all types of analog into digital. But not just converting them to MP3, but making the file organization as easy as possible to then load into a digital music library program such as iTunes. That’s not a simple task, as getting all that metadata straight so it’s as well organized as a giant iPod, takes a meticulous nature. MMCSI shared its process with… View this story
