One of the best ways to experience the advantages of HDTV viewing is by watching sporting event. The super-sharp imagery brings a speeding hockey puck into focus, the far corners of the field closer, and the instant replays easier to judge. The benefits, for some, are simply too hard to resist, so much so that they’ll do just about anything—and I mean anything—to watch the big-game on an high-def set. Heck, they’ll even go to the in-laws. According to a survey from Kelton Research, 43… View this story

We’ve always been keen on Vizio for its value-performance HDTVs. It’s good to know they have our man cave viewing preferences on their priority list too—football. Yup, it appears that the company’s relationship with San Diego Chargers star running back LaDainian Tomlinson has spawned even more pigskin involvement by Vizio. The company has hooked up with Fox Sports Net to deliver “Vizio Profiles”—or “Pro Files”—a 30-minute weekly show that will give an inside peek into today’s rising and veteran NFL stars, including Tomlinson. The show… View this story

For football fans it’s tough to beat DirecTV’s NFL Sunday Ticket. It’s also tough to get off the couch on those Sundays that you can click and find every NFL game to watch. But satellite service isn’t ideal for everyone. Just as the thousands who live in New York high-rises that can’t really swing the service, or other areas of the country where satellite is difficult to install. So DirecTV is reportedly giving those people the opportunity to watch football online instead (provided you can… View this story

Pretty much every major sporting event is telecast in high-definition these days. So where’s the love for the British Open? TNT and ABC’s coverage of the event from Turnberry in Scotland this week is being broadcast in widescreen, but it’s as a standard-definition upconversion, as the HD Sports Guide duly notes. So let me get this straight—we get regular-season WNBA games in HD now, but they can’t ship a few cameras to one of golf’s four majors and get us some razor-sharp views of the… View this story

The way Bryant Moore of custom electronics firm Moore Audio Design puts it, getting this sports fan’s ultimate viewing den in order was about as challenging as hitting a Nolan Ryan fastball—for a home run. Based on the result, we’re guessing the installation was a hit with this homeowner. The project presented several unique challenges, according to Moore: - The client requested a media room with multiple screens that would be used primarily to watch multiple sporting events, simultaneously, but the space also needed to… View this story

Who needs a Man Cave when you can have a “Man Wall”? It’s the brainchild of Bradenton, Fla., company HybridSpace Furniture and if you want all things manly in your own private living room paradise, the Man Wall has it all. The 2 x 8 x 8-foot piece is a fully integrated solution that combines cabinet, A/V and much more that you may not have considered (or considered and couldn’t fit) for your man cave. For starters, this ultimate sports fan’s fantasy features a 52-inch… View this story

Football is not just a one-screen affair in this house. The action can be on as many as eight video displays in the space alone. Four 40-inch Sony LCDs flank a 52-incher in the lounge area, and three more 32-inch Sonys float over the bar. As if that’s not enough, there’s a 110-inch screen in the nearby home theater. But back to the sports bar. These rooms were designed in a unique Hawaiian - Mediterranean fusion that reflects the heritage of the homeowners. Bringing these… View this story

New York Yankees pitcher A.J. Burnett likes things big and powerful. He has a big contract and powerful cars. So a big and powerful home theater was a no-brainer. A Runco 1080p DLP projector and a superwide 104-inch Stewart Filmscreen CinemaScope display, combined with a 7.2-channel surround-sound system consisting of high-end B&W loudspeakers, an Integra A/V processor and a 7-channel McIntosh amp certainly provide a robust home theater experience. “The sound is amazingly full, and he can play it as loud as he wants,” says… View this story

The NFL has extended its contract with DirecTV. Sigh. Through 2014 (at a cost of about $1 billion per year), the satellite provider retains the rights to broadcast Sunday Ticket. For those not in the know, Sunday Ticket is the wife’s worst nightmare. The package allows you to watch every NFL game on Sundays, not just the ones broadcast on local channels. It’s heaven for fans not living in the same TV market of their team (think Steelers fan in New Hampshire). I currently live… View this story

Citi Field, the new digs for the New York Mets, will feature more than 800 Sharp AQUOS LCD HDTVs when it opens April 13. The HDTVs will be spread throughout the stadium’s concourses, restaurants, and clubs. There’s also going to be a 108-inch Sharp LCD in the main lobby. “Sharp’s provision of the finest HDTVs will enhance our fan experience throughout Citi Field,” says Dave Howard, executive VP of Business Operations for the Mets. Here’s hoping those HDTVs actually get some use in the playoffs,… View this story

There’s no question where Jay Cobb’s friends go for Sunday afternoon football: to the game room of his Northern California home, where they can rack them up or down a few while taking in the week’s four top NFL games. Cobb uses the four-part display—along with the home’s Control4 home automation system—as a living showroom for his Fresno-based Hi-Tech Home installation business. The four-quadrant TV is fast becoming a trademark of the Hi-Tech portfolio, and it makes for any easy sell to prospective clients—especially sports… View this story
