Robert Archer, 01/28 02:58 PM,

Q. I am looking at purchasing a Samsung PN63B590 for my living room. I’m going plasma because of the size, and my viewing distance is 15-20 feet. Is there a better option that you know of for the same price range? - Steve, Indiana A. Steve, my suggestion, considering your viewing distance, is to go with a two-piece projection system.…

Robert Archer, 01/22 09:00 AM,

Q. I have a Blu-ray player (Samsung BD-P2500) that decodes Dolby TrueHD. It is hooked through HDMI to my Denon 3806 Receiver, which doesn’t have that capability. But shouldn’t I be able to get Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio with that setup? - Pat, Libertyville, Illinois A. No, not necessarily. Your Blu-ray player may be compatible with those formats,…

Should I Add a Second Subwoofer to My Surround System?
Robert Archer, 12/17 09:10 AM,

I am in the process of upgrading my home entertainment system. I want to get as much out of the Blu-ray and HDTV as possible. I have been doing some research on the 7.2-channel surround systems and I am wondering if the extra powered subwoofer would make a very big difference. My listening/viewing area isn’t that large, and currently I…

Help! Receiver Won’t Play Video With HDMI Converters
CE Pro, 12/01 11:00 AM,

Q. I’ve used Denon receivers for years and never had a problem before. However, the new AVR-1910 (and only this model) has a weird quirk whereas when using either a Key Digital or Spectrum HDMI to Cat 5/Cat 6 converter, (even with only a 50-foot run of dual Cat 6), it will not produce video. I have spoken directly to…

Q. After I fried our Panasonic home theater receiver, my husband bought a used Harman/Kardon AVR 635 on eBay. It often refuses to put out sound. Some of the time it freezes up completely. Other times, it seems to come on, the screen provides the right message, you can adjust the volume and the numbers go up and down, but…
