Cables are one of the biggest complaints about consumer electronics. We’re well aware of the unsightliness of even the fanciest cables. Unfortunately, there’s not much that can be done to make cables more attractive. But over the past few years, wireless technologies have advanced, allowing us to declutter our jungle of cables. We’ve rounded up 14 products that use the latest in wireless technologies to create sound solutions. Click here for 14 Wireless Audio Products. View this story

I don’t know why, but there’s a strange charm in owning equipment made by companies who’s names hold ambiguous pronunciation.  I’m pretty sure the bulk of it is the ego boost you get when correcting your friend’s butchering of the word with your own nuanced elocution. Jamo, of Danish decent, fits nicely into that category. And today, you don’t need a briefcase full of cash or AMEX Centurion to boost your hubris. Today only, Vanns has an easy-to-pronounce deal on a Jamo 5-channel speaker package… View this story

There’s a lot of talk in the home electronics industry about “blending in.” You’ll hear custom electronics (CE) professionals speak about the clever ways they’ve managed to make the speakers disappear into the walls of family room. Homeowners will brag about how you can’t even see the rack of A/V equipment that drives their home theater system. Even the manufacturers of home electronics products boast about the inconspicuous nature of their flat-panel TVs, keypads, and other components. Blending in is all well and good. It… View this story

It’s not often you get to test drive something that’s unlikely to actually reach market. As Jack Oclee-Brown, research engineer at KEF, put it, auto manufacturers make concept cars because they can, and they get to experiment with technology. Loudspeaker manufacturers get to do the same thing. Sometimes we’ll see their work come to fruition in a bold statement. Sometimes it stays in the manufacturing plant. Oclee-Brown has gotten to travel around the world with KEF’s experimental loudspeaker, the Concept Blade, of which there’s only… View this story

Ever since surround sound formats were popularized in the mid ‘80s, and even more so with the boom of Dolby Digital-encoded DVDs in the mid ‘90s, speaker manufacturers have been bundling 5.1 channel speaker packages for easy consumption.  Just add an AV receiver, source and display and you have yourself a full-fledged home theater. These packages range from micro-satellite speakers and tiny “bass modules” to all-out reference systems certified for actual theater use … and everything in between. What you don’t see all that often… View this story

RBH Sound has been around since 1976, quite some time, but has really only marketed products under their own name for the last decade or so. In that relatively short time, the former OEM component manufacturer to a number of prominent brands has built a reputation for high quality loudspeakers and relatively reasonable prices. They have also built up something of a small, loyal following as their name reaches further into the audio mainstream. The 8300 SE/R tower speakers were recently introduced at the 2009… View this story

Deals on Polk Audio Monitor speakers from NewEgg come and go pretty frequently. If you miss one, another will pop up a week or two later. This time might be a little different. Or maybe it’s just a new low price they’ll break again next week. Who knows? Currently, NewEgg has the Monitor 60 floorstanding loudspeaker (in black finish) for $100/each after coupon code SPEAKER113X1. These are high-performance (for the price) floorstanders with three 5.25-inch woofer/midranges, a 1-inch polymer composite tweeter, and low-frequency extension to… View this story

When I was a kid, during my long and often eventful summers, I watched a lot of Nickelodeon (unless Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was on HBO). About once an hour they played an animated short called “The Cat Came Back,” which had a repetitive tune that was impossible to get out of your head once you’d heard it. It still pops into my head to this day, nearly 20 years later. The Polk Monitor 50 floorstanding speaker from Newegg makes me want to… View this story

During a recent trade show, I was re-introduced to the idea of mounting built-in speakers close to the floor. I had seen it done before in homes that we’ve featured online and in Electronic House magazine, but hadn’t really stopped to consider the merits this unconventional speaker placement. It’s easy to understand why you’d want a speaker mounted in the ceiling or in the wall: The sound hits you right where your ears are. So why on earth would you want to install your speakers… View this story

I dig up and pass along a lot of deals on somewhat low-end, but high-value, home-theater related electronics that you might not ever consider placing in your dedicated theater. The main reason? I’m cheap. The better reason? Finding great deals on what goes elsewhere your home frees up cash for what you really want to put in the room where it matters. Today, however, I’m going straight for the higher-end. Accessories4Less.com has an exceptional deal going on an exceptional Canton Vento Reference front sound stage.… View this story

The Speaker Company is currently having a 20% off sale on pretty much everything they stock via coupon code MOST15.  Some of the best products to apply these codes on are the T series speakers, PT and NT series in-wall and in-ceiling speakers (which include integrated enclosures), and TSAT series on-wall speakers.  The T series and TSAT series are also an OEM re-badging of the very popular Sapphire line once sold exclusively by Hi-Fi Buys and Tweeter, which reviewed extremely well at 2-3 times the… View this story

RBH Sound, long known in enthusiast’s circles for accurate sound at reasonable prices, has upgraded their MC-6CT Tower Speaker. The MC-6CT, the flagship of the MC line, has won numerous awards over the years. The MC-6CT stands 40-inches high on a brand new plinth that was added for additional stability. Rubber feet or carpet spikes are included. The Cherry finish has been dropped in favor of a Black Oak woodgrain.
