Sure, in those Laptop Hunter commercials Microsoft is pushing the fact that Apple computers are pricier than their PC counterparts. But if you’re a college student, or college teacher or staff member, your new Mac can come with a free iPod touch. Apple has launched a Back to School campaign that runs from now until September 8 for making purchases of Mac computers. When you buy your fancy new Macbook or iMac, make the iPod touch purchase at the same time and you’ll qualify for… View this story

Are we experiencing a new era in communications - the “Maxwell wireless fever”…? That’s right, we are saturating the spectrum with… View this story

One of the biggest attractions of the music-based games “Guitar Hero” and “Rock Band” is the fact that these products allow both the young and old to live out their rock-and-roll fantasies even if they can’t play the guitar.  There are however, many people that sit home each day like the Internet sensation Susan Boyle toiling in obscurity for years without being noticed. Thankfully there are now products available to the average singing-in-the-shower Joe that allow them to make music at home without blowing out… View this story

The word-assocation game with “Brando” probably brings to mind “versatile, award-winning actor”—and that versatility seems to ring true for the manufacturer of the same name. The company has unleashed its little power-packed SATA HDD Dock Station Combo Stereo Speaker + Hub, which essentially is a nifty little desktop hard-drive and USB music player. For $59, you get a dock for your 2.5- or 3.5-inch SATA hard drive and its gigs of storage, plus a two-port USB 2.0 hub on the front. There’s a built-in USB… View this story

D-Link, which introduced green network switches and routers that recognize when ports are inactive and adjust power accordingly, is at it again. The company’s second-generation DGS-2205 5-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch provides up to 73 percent reduced power consumption when connected and powered down, says D-Link. The same device, when used for 10 hours and then powered down for 14 hours over a 24-hour period and connected via Ethernet cables, represents a 66 percent energy reduction. Three more energy-saving switches will also be available this year.… View this story

It would be easy to pooh-pooh your PC as a true stereo system because chances are, even if you’ve got thousands of songs stored on it, your computer speakers don’t do justice to your digital music collection. Peachtree Audio wants to change all that, and give you a mini audiophile-worthy sound system for your desktop. One of the keys is the company’s first set of speakers, the DS4.5, to deliver clarity, detail and plenty of oomph to fill whatever room your computer resides. The DS4.5… View this story

If your PC is like mine, it’s loaded with music that’s been ripped from CD, downloaded or purchased. Great for when you’re sitting at the desk listening on tiny computer speakers, not so great if you want to use your PC as a full-throttle audio server with easy access to your entire digital music collection. There are plenty of ways to get at it. One would be to start with the u (USB) Upgrade from Wadia Digital. Wadia’s all about the digital music format, and… View this story

SanDisk just sold its soul to the “Rock Band” franchise, by emblazoning an SD card with the game’s logo. Way to jump on the “Rock Band” bandwagon! The company says that song downloads for the game can soak up 24MB of memory, and the 2GB SanDisk Rock Band 2 SD gaming card will give Wii users enough storage space for 75 extra songs. Yeah—pretty much any 2GB SD card will give you that. “We are launching the SanDisk Rock Band 2 SD card to enhance… View this story
