Since Echostar announced its purchase of Sling Media, I can only hope that this loyal Dish Network subscriber will someday get some supercool combo HD DVR and Slingbox streaming device. But for now, I’ll gladly take Sling’s Solo, whose main goal seems to be better “place shifting” at cheaper prices. That means while I am visiting my parents and suffering the foldout couch, I’ll also be entertained by the satellite TV service I have grown addicted to. It can deliver my TV faves via PCs, laptops, Macs and a slew of smartphones. As long as I have web access, I can even catch up on DVDs or my overflowing DVR.
