By far the most advanced TV of any technology available. Why un thw world did they degrade it by putting a glossy, reflective screen on it?

Because they could not achieve its black levels without the screen

Thanks for your response. Why would a diffusive screen degrade the black levels? In a black room it wouldn’t matter and in a lit room the reflective screen seems like it would degrade the black level more. It certainly did in the showroom I saw the TV in.
The shiny scren might have more transmission, which would help the brightness of the screen. It was certainly the brightest TV in the show room.

I have this TV and when you are in a pitch black room and programming fades to black, you can’t see a thing. It’s like you are in a cave. Very awesome zero black capabilty! This can happen because the screen image is driven by LEDs that can selectively shut off behind areas of true black.

the 81 Series feature a dynamic contrast ratio of 100,000:1. Samsung’s 81 Series takes dynamic contrast ratio to a new level for LCD TVs. An LED (light-emitting diode) backlight features dimming technology that turns off the backlight in darker areas, resulting in a 100,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio.
