Above the Tide

Briefly describe the objectives in creating this theater.
The client purchased a custom home mid construction which had a private theater space designated. The owners wanted a room which would provide very good performance for movies, music, and broadcast viewing within a very comfortable environment but also tie in well with the home’s interior design.

The client also wanted to manage costs but was interested in balancing performance with any savings when making these types of decisions. We were engaged initially to provide functional design consultation for acoustical isolation, acoustical specification, sight line and seating configuration, as well as equipment placement, engineering, and installation. We were further engaged to provide interior design and functional design integration and construction support.

What technical features are notable in this project?
This theater represents excellent technical value and performance on many levels. The control processor also integrates the whole-house systems and the hand held remote, which the client preferred provides the user interface along with an integrated keypad at the entry. The audio features a very high quality speaker system driven by a top of the line 7.1 receiver with a built-in professional equalization system. A 1080p projector and acoustically transparent screen provide the high definition video.

The specification of these components represented the client’s desire to have excellent performance but maintain budget. From a design perspective, we
encouraged the upgraded speaker selection as these units were built into the room and acoustic design.
