Country Chalet

Briefly describe the objectives in creating this theater.
The client wanted to build a theater in a space adjacent to the basement level of his mountain chalet. A Tuscany style, stone clad passageway leads to the space which at the time was literally open studs and earthen floor. The space, though small, would seat at least six and include a 115” diagonal 2.4:1 screen, 7.1 surround with two 15” subwoofers, acoustically isolated at a moderate level and best possible interior acoustics considering the available space. The room was to be coordinated with the chalet interior design throughout the home but the owner wanted to keep a tight rein on the budget.

What technical features are notable in this project?
The theater features decoupled inner wall and ceiling construction to minimize sound transmission into and from neighboring rooms and the floor above. The interior acoustical materials were carefully selected to offer a balanced sound field although the available space was limited. This variegated acoustical palate was neatly concealed behind a stretch fabric system.

The curved screen provides a distortion free surface for the anamorphic image with a short throw distance. The LED 1080p projector delivers stunning contrast and surprising brightness belying the published specifications with cool and quiet performance. The integrated control system and RF remote provide seamless and simple operation of the video server, additional sources, general system operation, lighting control, and is also integrated with whole-house systems.
