DJ Spins Music, Movies in Graffiti Theater

One step into the basement of this suburban New York residence, and you’ll feel like you’re in a nightclub. The owner is a part-time disc jockey who wanted an entertainment space to serve as a mini-disco and powerhouse home theater.

When the lights go down, the 120-inch Stewart Filmscreen steals the show, displaying CinemaScope movies without the pesky black bars. To ensure a dark viewing environment, a Crestron automation system controls the area’s blackout shades that descend over the windows at the press of a touchpanel button. Other sections of the basement include a DJ mixing booth routed to “club” speakers, and there’s also a pool table, piano and bar.
