Sony introduced its BDP-S470 standalone player that’s 3D ready in February, with the 3D ability coming as a firmware upgrade slated for “this summer.” The upgrade will also be available for Sony’s previously released BDP-S570 standalone player as well as its BDV-E770W, BDV-E570 Blu-ray home theater systems and PlayStation 3 gaming console.
The company also scheduled its first 3D-compatible A/V receiver to arrive in June for about $500. The STR-DN1010 receiver includes HDMI 1.4 3D pass-through technology to go along with the latest usual AVR suspects like uncompressed audio decoding, 7.1 channels (at 110 watts per), HD 1080/24p support and seven HD inputs (four HDMI, three component).
