Monoprice (Grade: C-)

Monoprice is a favorite of mine for inexpensive cables and general wiring accessories.

While I’ve had a few failures out of the box and wouldn’t recommend them for dealer use where an in-field issue can translate to extra labor costs or service calls, it’s hard for the average consumer or DIYer to ignore their prices. With some hands-on experience, I can say the same for their mounts.

Unfortunately, Monoprice offers the least mount compatibility data of any retailer reviewed. While overall dimensions, weight capacity and max VESA patterns are listed, that’s about it.

Occasionally you’ll find a mount that calls out a specific brand or model of display that WILL NOT fit, but nowhere is there any way to find out explicitly if your model WILL fit, other than based on mounting pattern and weight.

As with Stands and Mounts, I gave Monoprice’s online chat tool a try. While responses were a bit slow, usually taking between 1 and 5 minutes for each response, the tech on the other end did do a surprisingly good job of researching the brand and model of my display on the fly (and was honest enough to tell me he was doing so) and make mount recommendations based on what he found.

While I would prefer a database-oriented tool like the manufacturers, the help supplied by the chat tool was better than nothing and could be the deciding factor for someone who hadn’t researched their display’s mounting specifications already.
