In what may have been the highlight of Integrated Systems Europe (ISE), DeToma of Germany demonstrated some stunning LED light fixtures that also house active speakers. The Duo 2 aktiv is a pendant light with four LEDs. One cable has the speaker wire and one has the power. The Duo 3 aktiv is wall-mounted and has four LEDs on top and four on the bottom.
Both weather-resistant units – available in anodized or brushed aluminum—include two 35-watt amplifiers and 360-degree omnidirectional speaker with aluminum cone. In addition, DeToma offers some fancy DSP speaker correction software that lets users correct frequency response and other parameters on the fly.
“Architects, they want either very small speakers or something that looks pretty,” says DeToma’s Thomas Deuble.
These products fit the bill. They retail for 2,000 Euros ($2,700) per pair. Sadly, there is no U.S. distribution currently, but the speakers are ready for the U.S. market with 110-volt support.
