LG's 0.1-inch Thick TV

The ongoing battle to display the world’s largest TV at CES is gimmicky. But the world’s thinnest TV … that’s different.

LG Display’s prototype 42-inch 1080p .1-inch (2.6mm) thick LED-backlit panel is the “world’s thinnest” LCD TV, according to the company.

While mammoth screen sizes may not be practical for everybody, reducing depth and weight is significant because it opens up placement and installation. LG’s 42-inch prototype only weights 8.6 pounds.

You can bet that LG’s innovation will spur other manufacturers to unveil thinner and lighter models while furthering the use of LED technology.
