Working from the top down, Marantz pulled from their expertise in developing digital cinema projectors, to create their best home cinema DLP projector yet, the VP-11S1. Using the most recent single-chip DLP topology, the VP-11S1 provides full up-conversion capability for all video sources to 1080p HD resolution.
To further provide the best possible image quality, Marantz used a specially designed 10-bit image processing chip with Visual Excellence Processing from Gennum Corporation for deinterlacing and scaling that is equivalent to out-board video processors. The VP-11S1 features all-glass optics from Konica-Minolta and a color wheel that spins at 10,800 RPM, which reduces motion artifacts and rainbow effects. To ensure quiet operation due to the fast-spinning color wheel, a specially designed motor was developed, borrowed from hard disc drive technology, for quiet operation.
The VP-11S1 offers a wide range of custom installation features including a comprehensive onscreen menu enabling easy setup as well as extensive calibration facilities with color temperature and gamma adjustments. A mechanical lens shift allows mounting above the screen too accommodate installation of the projector close to the ceiling. The VP-11S1 can be outfitted with an anamorphic lens for display of movies in the original 2.35.1 aspect ratio without black bars across the top and bottom. For larger rooms where a long throw lens is required, there is the VP-11SL, which runs an additional $300.
