The Sim2 D80 is the latest projector in the Domino series of the company’s high-value DLP home theater projectors. The D80 delivers many of the core performance qualities of the company’s flagship HT3000, such as onboard 10-bit video processing and SIM2’s proprietary Alpha Path light engine, but for considerably less money.
The SIM2 D80 front projector uses the popular Texas Instruments single chip DarkChip3 DMD for displaying 1080p source material, such as HD-DVD and Blu-ray discs. The internal deinterlacing/scaling engine ensures optimal performance with all other video sources.
The proprietary Alpha Path folded light engine avoids excessive light spill and overheating for a brighter, more stable picture. A seven-segment color wheel (RGBRGB + Neutral Density Filter) ensures that the D80 delivers its rated 4000:1 contrast ratio and renders colors accurately for highly saturated and vibrant images.
There are three custom user settings for each input, allowing for a specific aspect ratio and other adjustments. The D80 is available in either a matte black or matte white cabinet.
