The Driveway

Another oft-overlooked area that deserves prewiring consideration is the end of your driveway. This is a good location to put a motorized gate, security cameras, an intercom station and a vehicle detection probe. If and when you decided to add these devices, you’ll be able to see who’s pulled into the driveway, open and close the gate and talk with your guests conveniently from the house. Any car that drives past the vehicle detector could trigger an announcement to play over some speakers or to sound a chime.

THE WIRE: Multiple runs of Category 5e, RG-6 coaxial cabling and two alarm wires.
