Kwikset's SmartCode with Home Connect Technology

I love the idea of a keyless electronic lock for my house. Sometimes I’m gone when my kids get home from school, so it’d be nice for them to be able to get into the house without having to carry (and inevitably lose) a set of keys. The fact that I can monitor and control the lock from the Web is a big plus, too. Once the kids are inside, I can lock up the house again from my cell.

I also like the fact that Kwikset’s new lock ($349) can communicate with a home automation system. Not that I plan on investing in a system soon, but if and when I do, the lock could trigger a string of events. For example, whenever someone enters a code into the lock, select lights could turn on and the thermostat could readjust. Because the lock communicates via Z-Wave technology, I won’t have to add any new wire to have it talk to the automation system.
