Salamander Designs' Sonoma 221

At 20 inches high and 44 inches wide, the Sonoma 221 from Salamander Designs is compact enough to tuck into just about any open space, and its ample storage basin can hold as many as four audio/video components. The 32-inch-or-so flat-panel TV it can accommodate on top is fine, too—and larger units are available should we upsize. I also like the fact that this piece can be configured with accessories such as an active cooling kit and an IR repeater system that will let me control the equipment when the cabinet doors are closed. $1,299, www.salamanderdesigns.com
