AC/DC, Back in Black

Following the death of singer Bon Scott, the Australian band AC/DC released one of the most popular records in music history. Produced by Robert “Mutt” Lange, Back in Black has sold nearly 50 million estimated copies and it features songs like “You shook me All Night Long,” “Back in Black” and “Shoot to Thrill.”

Back in Black is built upon the same bluesy riffs and chord progressions that anchored the band’s past songwriting efforts, but with the edition of more groove-oriented melodies and more polished and distorted guitar tones.

Signature Song: “You Shook Me All Night Long” Lead guitar player Angus Young’s melodic intro and tasteful guitar solo highlight this song. The thing to listen to in this song is Young’s “tone.” Using his standard equipment choices of Gibson SG guitars and Marshall amplifiers, Young is unique in that he skips the use of rack-mounted sound processors and “stomp” boxes and the end result is one of rock music’s purest sounds, which is clearly evident in this song.
