Take a great band, an incredible guest list, and one of our greatest directors and you’ve got ‘The Last Waltz,’ which opens with the statement that the film should be played loud. Indeed. The interviews themselves are pretty entertaining too thanks to Robbie Robertson’s articulate responses, but the performances are absolute gems in this farewell concert from The Band. On their own, standouts like Stage Fright and Up On Cripple Creek delight, and guests such as Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, Neil Young and Bob Dylan add even more zest.
