Honorable Mention: Volleyball Scores Big

As unavoidable as the Olympics were overall during their two-week run on TV, it was pretty hard to escape the beach volleyball coverage. Hmmm, I wonder why? I’m guessing that NBC has heard somewhere that “sex sells” and that high-definition video of women wearing next to nothing, jumping around on a beach, might do for the Olympics ratings what the Swimsuit Issue does for Sports Illustrated subscriptions. The up-close shots of the players flashing signals to each other were especially gratuitous. Thanks, NBC, we can’t wait till 2012. Congrats to Misty Mae-Treanor and Kerri Walsh on another U.S. gold, too, for the second straight Olympics.
