Billions of dollars in the making, years of planning, and the whole world watching—and China pulled off the most stunning visual feast in Olympics history with its opening ceremony. Yes, the events themselves also looked quite stunning in HD and NBC’s options through its family of networks were unbelievably plentiful (click on the final slide for the most eye-catching), but the two-week Beijing Olympics kicked off in style. Thousands of participants, thousands of onlookers, incredibly detailed and choreographed displays that provided a jaw-dropping beginning to a much-hyped sporting event. The Olympics themselves remain a special event for many, but for others it’s luster has lost a bit of shine. Michael Phelps and the U.S. Men’s Basketball team brought some of that back, but only after the many people involved set the table with this awesome display, that hopefully many of you DVR’d.
