The Wizard of Oz (Bonus Selection)

Okay…I couldn’t narrow my list to just 10 movies. How could I leave off the Wizard of Oz - the American Film Institute’s 10th best movie of all time? Warner Brothers announced early this year that their 2009 Blu-ray slate would include this classic, but several months later no release date has been announced. The songs are among the most beloved of all times, and the bright colors of the Land of Oz are begging for an HD release.

Scene Stealer – There are a number of sequences to choose from, but the scene that depicts the movie in most illustrations is my pick – the four main characters skipping up the Yellow Brick Road toward the Emerald City. The iconic song “We’re Off to See the Wizard” is playing as the group makes its way up the golden path. The pink of the flowers borders them as the gleaming green tower shines in the distance.
