The Star Wars Series

Star Wars: A New Hope set all kinds of records when it was released in theaters and to this day is one of the top grossing films of all times. The first three films took movie-making in a new direction. And say what you will about the more recent trilogy, it was still a visual and aural feast. Unfortunately, it took until 2004 for the original trilogy to be released on DVD, so if you’re holding your breath for a Blu-ray release, you’d better hope you have some powerful lungs.

Scene Stealers – Hard to pick just a couple scenes from six movies that are full of deserving ones, but there were several that stood out. I’ll lead off with the closing battle in Star Wars: A New Hope, if for no other reason than its place in Hollywood history. The Darth Vader-Luke Skywalker encounter in Cloud City in The Empire Strikes Back would be showcase for your display’s black level processing and has lots of ambient noise throughout. Moving into the new trilogy, the scene in Attack of the Clones where the clone troopers are emerging from a cloud of sand with their blasters firing that has always been among my favorites. The colors of the laser blasts masked by the dust and the superb audio mix puts you right in the middle of the action.
