E.T.

One of several Steven Spielberg films to be on a wish list for a lot of people, this heartwarming tale of the little lost alien won four Oscars and helped launch Drew Barrymore’s career. E.T. was released on VHS in 1988 and became one of the biggest selling titles ever on the format. In 2002, the film was rereleased on DVD with new CGI enhancements (guns for walkie-talkies anyone?) and caused quite a stir when it was believed that the only way to get the original version of the film was to buy the much more expensive 3-disc set, though in the end both versions were included on the 2-disc edition as well.

Scene Stealer – This one was too easy. Who doesn’t want to see Elliott soaring in front of the full moon as John Williams’ iconic score soars to a crescendo? This is easily one of the top 10 movie scenes of the past 30 years and can only get better on Blu-ray.
