A kitchen is a great spot from which to monitor and manage all of a home’s electronic systems. In this Northern California abode, the owners use a 15-inch touchscreen to view the status of the lights, temperature and security sensors in every room. By seeing which motion sensors have been tripped, for instance, they can discern which rooms are currently occupied—a great way to track down their kids, says Matt Thomas of Ultimate Control Inc., the home systems firm hired to integrate a bevy of electronic systems into the house. Once the owners learn where the kids are, they page them by talking into the touchscreen’s built-in speakers. Electronics design and installation by Ultimate Home Control Inc. of San Jose, CA. Construction by Building and Beyond of Woodside, CA. Architectural design by International Design Group.
