For the money, Sony’s W-Series HDTVs offer great performance and several features generally only found on higher end models. The KDL-40W3000 employs 10-bit processing and a 10-bit display panel. This powerful combination provides up to 64 times the level of color precision of conventional LCD TVs, which use 8-bit panels. Also, Sony’s “wide color gamut” backlight and special color filters reproduce more of the full broadcast TV color range — 25% more than standard backlights.
Highlights:
- 40” widescreen HDTV (16:9 aspect ratio)
- “brushed-metal” finish
- built-in digital (ATSC) and analog (NTSC) tuners for over-the-air TV broadcasts (antenna required)
- built-in QAM cable TV tuner receives unscrambled programs without a set-top box (cable service required)
- 1920 x 1080 pixels
- 8-millisecond pixel response time
- 1800:1 contrast ratio (16,000:1 dynamic)
- 178°(H) x 178°(V) viewing angle
