Arcam rDock

The rDock might look small, but it’s packing audiophile-grade amplifiers to boost that iPod sound. Another thing it boosts: iPod battery life. Sure, it offers your typical iPod charging, but what makes it truly unique is the option not to charge via a “charge-off” setting. Charging the battery all the time is actually a bad thing; also, it apparently doesn’t do anything for audio quality either. That’s not the only tidbit to boost sound. The rDock uses the iPod’s line-out connector, bypassing the headphone amp. It also has a built-in audio pre-amp with high performance op-amps and low-noise double-regulated power supplies. All of this sounds is a mouthful of musical madness, but when coupled with Arcam’s Solo Music or Movie systems, the iPod can to be controlled via remote, with all of the artist, song and other info on the Solo’s front-panel display. Other features include S-Video and composite outputs, in case you want to blast photos and video from the iPod to your big screen.

Price: $264
