Audience

Though they were among the smallest speakers at T.H.E. Show, the Audience ClairAudient 1+1 system ($1,800/pair) more than held its own, aided by the Wavepower mono amplifiers and Bryston BDP-1 digital player and BDA-1 DAC throwing the tunes. In this case, jazz trio Medeski Martin and Wood’s “Buster Rides Again” was forceful and lively, with the upright bass and percussion bopping along mightily through the ClairAudients. The low end came through loud, clean and bouncy with the upright bass sounding delightful in this Latin-infused track. Probably a boon from the 1+1’s bi-pole system featuring active drivers on the front and rear baffles, with a passive radiator on each side for bass enhancement, according to Audience. Consider it a job well done with these small, but impactful speakers.
