Adam Audio and Cary Audio

Adam Audio, known for its active/powered loudspeakers, had its striking monolith Column Mk3s as part of its Classic series, which can either be fully active or made in a passive design. The speakers produced some remarkably clean sound, with really solid transients and vocals that were “sweet and smooth” sounding as I’d written in my notes. Plenty of thump and synthesizer detail could be found on Bob Marley’s high-res version of “Could You Be Loved,” which played through Cary Audio’s DAC-100T system that was making its North American debut. The DAC-100 is available in solid state ($2,500) or tube ($3,000) design (hence the “T”) and the combination of Cary and Adam in this room had everyone’s heads boppin’.
