Sony

You may not know that Sony makes some high-end loudspeakers, but the company’s ES line is fantastic and shows what the massive company is capable of at the high end (we’ve seen it in video, too). In this room, the SS-NA2ES ($10,000/pair) 3-way, 6-driver floorstanders driven by Pass Labs electronics and a dCS Debussy DAC were being fed excellent DSD files - a Schubert symphony and a Flamenco-style guitar piece that I heard - that offered nice dynamics, subtle details and an excellent sense of the music’s recorded environment for a real “you’re there” feeling to them. The three-tweeter design aided in the upper-frequency extension and really made the guitar piece lovely. I also listened to Sony’s SS-NA5ES ($6,000/pair) bookshelf speakers in the company’s other room and found solid clarity and dynamics out of those as well.
