Veloce Audio’s Mark Conti got to share a unique electronics story with visitors to his room, which used the company’s Lithio Series LS-1 monoblock amplifiers to drive a pair of YG Acoustics Kipod II series speakers. The tubed Line Stage amplifiers feature a two-box design that doles out 400 watts of hybrid battery-powered current, yes battery-powered. Conti says the batteries are designed to last 12 years. The company says that because no AC mains touch the audio current it makes for cleaner sound. Used with a StahlTek Ariaa DAC, the combination produced really warm, vinyl-like sound to a 24/176 recording of Stevie Ray Vaughan’s “Couldn’t Stand the Weather”—“It sounds like you’re in the studio with him,” Conti says. “I remember when this came out, I bought the LP and the CD, and the original CD sounded dreadful.” This version definitely did not.
