If you like your 1984 a little on the lighter side, this movie is a must. Despite an all-star cast including Jonathan Pryce, Kim Greist, Michael Palin, Robert De Niro, and Katherine Helmond, this film did very poorly at the box office. It’s certainly not for everyone, but director Terry Gilliam’s sci-fi fantasy has an insane cult following—and now it also has a Criterion edition.
This would be great, if it didn’t have a Blu-ray release just last year. If you held off on buying, know that this 2-disc release has a 1.78:1 image, a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 track, and audio commentary. There’s also a whole second Blu-ray packed with extras, including a documentary, several featurettes, and a “Love Conquers All” version of the film.
