Blu-ray may be the final frontier for this version of the Star Trek franchise—and we’re ok with that. This second season set is a stellar one, with the show tightening up a bit, adding in a little humor, and putting a lot of the focus on Data (Brent Spiner). Of course, the rest of the cast is worth noting as well, with Patrick Stewart helming a lineup that includes Jonathan Frakes, LeVar Burton, Marina Sirtis, Michael Dorn, Diana Muldaur and Wil Wheaton.
The 5-disc set has a remastered 1.33:1 image that isn’t as good as last season’s set, but it’s still very satisfying, as is the DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 track. What the image is lacking is made up in extras. This set has a lot of them, with the highlight being the “Reunification: 25 Years After Star Trek: The Next Generation” cast reunion.
