Sunset Boulevard

Gloria Swanson stars as silent screen star Norma Desmond, who is looking to make her big comeback. Unfortunately, it all seems to hinge on Joe Gillis (William Holden), a bankrupt screenwriter. The ‘50s classic is the one that spawned the famous line, “All right, Mr. DeMille, I’m ready for my close up.” It’s also packed with plenty of famous faces, which include cameos from director Cecil B. DeMille, Buster Keaton, and more.

It only took 62 years for Sunset Boulevard to hit high-def; thankfully, it was worth the wait. The 1.33:1 aspect ratio looks pretty good, accompanied by a Dolby TrueHD Mono track. However, the real showstopper here is the single-disc release’s set of extras, which includes over 2.5 hours of featurettes that seem to cover pretty much every aspect of the production.
