Planes, Trains and Automobiles

The John Hughes classic gets its second Blu-ray release in less than a year—and not because it’s an awesome movie (even though it is). Last year’s Blu-ray was a Best Buy exclusive. However, with 2012 being the film’s 25th anniversary, it’s now coming for the masses. The film alone is worth the purchase, which includes the perfect pairing of Steve Martin and John Candy, as both desperately try to get home for Thanksgiving by any means of transportation necessary.

That’s a good thing, too, because the Blu-ray isn’t as great as it could be. The single-disc release has a fine 1.78:1 transfer image, a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track, and all of the same special features from the 2011 Blu-ray. Those extras, however, include a lot of interesting goodies. The one to look out for is a two-part documentary titled, “John Hughes: Life Moves Pretty Fast.”

Rating: R
Runtime: 93 minutes
Total Number of Discs: 1
Studio: Paramount
