Star Field In Theater

The typical way of adding a fiber-optic star field to a home theater is by hanging panels of fabric-covered acoustical paneling embedded with fiber-optic wires. It’s an attractive enough solution, but for this project, the custom electronics (CE) professionals at Admit One Cinema in Edina, Minn., went a different route. Using a system from Fiberoptics Technology, they installed the fiber-optic cabling directly into the Sheetrock. Cabling that connects bundles of stars to a light source was mounted to the back of the Sheetrock and tiny holes were drilled so 1,400 individual stars can shine through. Installed this way, the ceiling—painted a dark blue—looks like a normal ceiling, says Admit One Home Cinema president Lance Anderson. When the room lights are off and the star field is on, though, the room takes on an entirely different look, and features an occasional shooting star. www.fiberoptix.com
